Sirajganj: Thousands of people flocked to the fishing festival in Sirajganj, which is dominated by Chalanbil. In the morning of Hemant, before the sun peeks in the sky, thousands of people in the bill. Although nothing could be understood in the thick fog, everyone fell down one by one. The objective is only one – fishing. And for this, some people have fishing nets, some have fish nets, and other fishing equipment. After that, they went down to the bill in groups and hunted fish with joy. Some have got boal, some shoal, rui, katal. Many are returning empty handed. This is how hobbyist fish hunters enjoy fishing in mobiles.
On Monday (December 2), like every year, this event started early in the morning at Katakhal and Dhamaich Ganges of Tarash Upazila, which is known as Baut Utsav. People of different ages come from far and wide to catch fish. Not only Sirajganj, but the fishermen from neighboring Natore, Kushtia, Tangail and other districts participate in this festival. Katakhal and Dhamaich Ganges are filled to the brim with fish hunters before dawn.
Tarash Upazila Fisheries Officer. Mashgul Azad said, ‘Baut festival should be celebrated without harming fish reproduction and biodiversity. Baut festival is the tradition of this area. The government has taken necessary steps to protect indigenous species of fish.
